Abstract

In this paper we have used generalized modified gray scale quantization method, which is applicable for gray level images, for the lossy compression of a color image. On treating each component image as a gray level image, we have adopted the modified gray scale quantization method for, and determined the lossy compression of the color image by using an appropriate mechanism. This process leads to a significant compression of gray image.
