The existing attendance systems are time consuming, inefficient and error-prone. Face detection and recognition is the focus of cutting edge research in today's era due to its wide applicability in areas such as Surveillance, Automated Access Control, People Tracking, etc. One relevant application of multiple face detection and recognition is Automated Attendance System. In this paper, we present a survey on the existing methods and technologies used for detecting and recognizing faces in images and the applicability of these in automated attendance system.
