Title

INCIDENCE OF H-PYLORI INFECTION IN ALIGARH

Abstract

H Pylori incidence varies with geographic areas, age and races. Incidence refers to number of new infection of a disease. The incidence of H. pylori infection continues to be high (between 3% and 10% per year) in developing countries. Throughout the world, incidence of H. pylori infection appears to be higher in children than in adults, possibly due to lower standards of personal hygiene in younger populations. H. pylori is a common bacterium, and approximately 50 percent of the world's population has been estimated to be infected. Humans are the principal reservoir of infection. H. pylori cause chronic gastritis and has been associated with several other serious diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, including duodenal ulcer and gastric cancer. Since its "discovery" in 1982 by Warren and Marshall, H. pylori has been the topic of extensive research. The purpose of our study which was conducted in the D/O Jarahat, AKTCH is to evaluate the incidence rate of H-Pylori infection in Aligarh. On an average the incidence rate was found to be 46% which require medical treatment.
