Title

Length Based Separations of Single Wall Carbon Nano Tubes Using Liquid-Liquid Extraction with CYANEX 923

Abstract

Single Walled Carbon Nano Tubes (SWNTs) have been separated with respect to their lengths by liquid- liquid extraction with CYANEX 923. SWNTs have first been dispersed by functionalizing them with sulfonic group. These functionalized SWNTs have been dispersed in deionized water. 0.75 mg mL-1 SWNTs in water have been subjected to extraction with different concentrations of CYANEX 923. Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM) images indicate that SWNTs of around 500 nm, 1 µ and 2 µ length are selectively extracted by of 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2 M CYANEX 923, respectively.
