Title

Removal of pyrocatechol violet-an acidic dye from aqueous solution using Achyranthes aspera leaf powder carbon

Abstract

These are identified as ideal alternatives when compared to the current expensive methods. Here the adsorbent is prepared from Nayuruvi leave powder carbon (NLPC) (Achyranthes aspera) to remove dyes from the textile effluents. The effects of NLPC in the adsorption of pyrocatechol violet (PV) from the dye bath has been studied. The parameters like effect of pH, solid/liquid ratio, agitation time and initial dye concentration are studied. The sorption isotherms were analyzed using Langmuir and Frendlich model. The results indicated that acidic solutions supported the adsorption of dye in NLPC. The effect of adsorbent surface was analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), whereas SEM images showed reasonable agreement with adsorption measurements. The adsorbent is said to be eco-friendly due to the wider endurance of Achyranthes aspera in South Asian countries.
