Title

ELECTROCHEMICAL CHARACTERIZATION AND THERMAL STUDIES OF HONEY MEDIATED BIOGENIC ZINC OXIDE NANOPARTICLES

Abstract

Special chemical properties of honey render its usage in green synthesis of nanoparticles. The aim of this paper was to study the electrochemical and thermal behavior of honey mediated biogenic zinc oxide nanoparticles. ZnO also exhibits the phenomenon of luminescence. Because of this property it is used in FED (field emission display) equipment, such as televisions. It is superior to the conventional materials, sulfur and phosphorus (compounds exhibiting phosphorescence), because it is more resistant to UV rays, and also has higher electrical conductivity. The photo luminescent properties of zinc oxide depend on the size of crystals of the compound, defects in the crystalline structure, and also on temperature. PL (photo luminescent spectra) was measured and Zinc oxide nanoparticle showed a better PL intensity. TGA showed that there are two pronounced mass loss steps in the temperature ranges 80°C–150°C and 260°C–500°C, respectively, in TG curve. DSC showed the gradual loss of water started from the surface of nanoparticles at 400C up to 1200C. The electrochemical analysis by Cyclic Voltammetry, voltammogram of nanoparticles exhibited one sharp oxidation peak and reduction peak. This behaviour was associated with the electroactive nature of zinc oxide nanoparticle.
