Abstract

Experimental investigation was carried out for the treatment of industrial waste water using adsorption process. The coconut palm fiber is used as a adsorbent. The dried coconut palm fiber (Coir) were grounded and used directly as adsorbent .Influence of pH, contact time, initial metal concentration adsorbent particle size in the removal of heavy metal present in industrial waste water evaluated. Coconut palm fiber succeeded to achieve 80% removal for cadmium cd2+and 50%for zinc zn2+ions within 6hrs of contact time. The optimum adsorbent dosage is 1ppm and optimum particle size is very small. The additional feature of this study is it is nontoxic, economic, biodegradable and easy handling method.
