Title

Implementation of Underground Line Breaks Detection based on Ohm’s Law

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to find the exact break of an underground line from the base station in kilometres using an Arduino microcontroller kit board. The underground line model is used in many metropolitan areas. Every time it is not possible to provide the repairing procedure to that particular line where the break is detected, because not knowing the exact point of the line breaks, and that’s why one needs to dig whole line wire from the base station to the find the exact point of break. This given system is to find the correct place of the break. Mainly ohm’s law method is used in this paper. In this method when a low DC power supply is applied at the connecting end of the line through a series resistor (Cable lines), then current is varied depending upon the exact place of a break in the cable. The voltage across series resistors changes accordingly if there is any short circuit between line and ground. This voltage is then given to integral ADC of Arduino board which is used to develop accurate digital data for display in kilometers. By using the set of resistors which are representing line distance in kilometer and set of switches which are used for fault creation at every known kilometer to cross-check the accuracy of the same. Here LCD is interfaced with Arduino kit which is used to display the break detected at a particular distance and the respective point will be displayed on an LCD.
