Economic and social growth come with their own burdens on the environment. The growing pressures of increasing population and consumption raise sustainability concerns and it has become increasingly imperative to ensure that the economic and societal prosperity is achieved with sustainability. New concepts such as Green finance have evolved whereby decisions are made with due considerations to the Environmental, Societal and Governance (ESG) concerns. The financial centers can support sustainability by creating value this study examines whether sustainable development can be facilitated by market forces by designing market instruments which can direct the flow of scare financial resources into areas that can be drivers of sustainable growth. The adoption of various practices and activities of sustainable finance such as green bonds, sustainable funds, impact investing, microfinance, active ownership, carbon credits and other credits for sustainable projects, development of the whole financial systems to facilitate sustainable development are the main focus of this exploratory paper .
