Abstract

Terpolymer resin abbreviated as HBTE-II was synthesized by polycondensation using monomers p-hydroxybenzaldehyde (0.2M), thiourea (0.1M) and ethylene glycol (0.4M) in the presence of polyphosphoric acid as catalyst 1200C. The molecular weight was determined by non-aqueous conductometric titration. The HBTE-II terpolymer was characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H NMR and UV-Visible spectra. The resin was found to show semiconducting behavior in the temperature range 303-448 K. The activation energy by conduction was found to be 1.5405 kJmol-1.
