Abstract

The removal of fluoride from municipal water and their possible harmful effects are major problems to tackle, making use of special processes and methods to remove fluorides from municipal water seems so essential to avoid the health risk. A Poly Aluminium Chloride, commercial product selected for the study, was tested as coagulants, comparatively with the classical aluminium sulfate (alum). This paper describes the performance studies of PAC and alum in the removal of fluorides from waters of different turbidities of natural origin. ECORITE PAC-2010 is a coagulant Poly Aluminium Chloride (PAC) a product of of M/s. Shriram Consolidated Limited (DSCL). It was observed that PAC acts as a good coagulant over a wide range of turbidity and produces larger and more rapidly settleable flocs than the alum. It was also observed that the removal of fluoride was better with alum than with ECORITE PAC-2010.
