STRESS AND ITS EFFECTS ON PSYCHOLOGICAL HEALTH OF THE BUS DRIVERS – A STUDY IN KARNATAKA STATE ROAD TRANSPORTATION CORPORATION

Abstract

Stress is one of the most common words heard from all the professionals and business entrepreneurs globally. Hence it is considered as the common phenomenon leaded many of the researchers to take this as challenging task. The stress is has effects in two ways physical and psychological health. Current study undertaken to analyze psychological effects of the stress. Karnataka state road state transportation corporation (KSRTC) is one of the major transport corporations in Karnataka by providing the best travelling experience to its customers from a long time. Study took a sample of 120 bus drivers of the chamarajnagar, Mysuru and Mandya. The drivers of KSRTC are playing crucial role to achieve the goals of the transportation business. The passenger travelling vehicles drivers are highly responsible for the life of the passengers. The more responsibility comes with more stress since they have to give the best to the trusted employer by giving the best travelling the experience for the passengers and also ensuring the safety. Driving profession is considered as the highest stressed job physically and mentally. The drivers are facing lot of mental stress those are leading them to face psychological threats like emotional imbalance, inability to relax, argumentative and sudden responsiveness. Stress causing factors are feeling overburden, pressure to meet the difficult targets, fear of accidents.
