Title

India's Political Economic Relations with GCC states: A Case Study of Saudi Arabia

Abstract

The rationale behind to study of India’s political economic relations with is to understand how India has been taking different policies decisions in establishing the economic relations with this country. What were the economic and strategic compulsions, both domestic and foreign, behind the changing scenarios of economic engagements particularly after the economic liberalization since early 1990s. This work aims to emphasize on the India’s political economic activities with Saudi Arabia and to explore the various factors that have been instrumental in shaping the economies of India and Saudi Arabia, and examine both internal and external factors in order to assess the policy perspectives of the respective regimes for stability of their economies. This will deal with various issues covered in exploring the India and Saudi contacts, its political, economic and strategic dimensions both at local domestic levels and at global level. This has been discussed in the context the historical links of economic relation between India and Saudi Arabia, and how in the present time the energy and commerce play vital role in India’s political economic engagements between these countries and especially with Saudi Arabia. How can we understand the ingredients of Indian political economic relation with Arab Gulf and particularly with Saudi Arabia? India and the economies of West Asia have had a natural economic relationship defined by geographical proximity, cultural linkages, and stronger presence of the Indian diaspora and economic complementarily defined by India’s need for oil and West Asia’s need for human capital and food products. Cross border trade and investment flows, among other things, are key ingredients of the relationship between India and West Asia.
