Abstract

The heat transfer due to the impingement of a flame on a target solid surface depends upon the flame structure, the temperature field in the near vicinity and geometrical parameters i.e. h and d. Here h signifies distance between flame emission and base plate and d signifies diameter of nozzle. The current research investigates the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics in evaluating the heat transfer characteristics of flame jet impingement with varying h/d ratio. The h/d ratio considered for analysis are 1.2, 1.6, 2 and 2.4 The CAD model of computational domain is developed in Creo design software and analysis is conducted using ANSYS CFX software. Standard k-epsilon turbulence model is used for CFD analysis. The temperature plot and heat transfer coefficient plots are generated for each case and comparative analysis is made. The heat transfer coefficient values obtained are higher for high h/d ratios and lower for low h/d ratios.
