Insect pest of chickpea and their Management-A Review
Abstract
Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is known in India by different names: Bengal gram, gram and chana. India is the largest producer of chickpea accounting for 64% of the global production. But in recent years chickpea production is constrained by diseases and insect-pests. Among the insect-pests, pod borer is the most severe yield reducer throughout India, while the bruchids cause severe damage in storage. Other major insect pests of chickpea are termite and cutworm and their managements through new generation insecticides and botanicals extracts.
