Title

BODO WOMEN IN WORK FORCE IN BODOLAND

Abstract

BODO WOMEN IN WORK FORCE IN BODOLAND ABSTRACT . The Bodo community is one of the oldest Schedule Tribe of North East India. In Bodoland 80% of the population was covered by the Bodo community. It is mainly an agricultural state where almost 95% population lives in the village. In the Bodos socio-economic set up it is the women who occupy dominant roll rather than the men. Though the Bodo women’s contributed lots to their community development yet their contribution is not recognised in the male dominated society of the Bodos. Despite their massive contribution there is no comprehensive study, which looks in to the social, political and economic condition of Bodo women. Through this research work an attempt is made to understand the nature of work that the Bodo women do and how it is valued. It is hoped that this understanding will help to place a high priority to the education of girls so that women’s work does not continued to be devalued.
