Title

SMART CITIES A NEW STEP TOWARDS URBAN DEVELOPMENT IN INDIA WITH SPECIAL REFRENEC TO JABALPUR CITY M.P.

Abstract

This paper attempts to analyze the concept of smart city in India as it is new concept for development of cities in our country. Government of India has embarked on an ambitious program of developing 100 Smart Cities on fast track with focus on building modern physical disaster resilient infrastructure that are scalable, intelligent and interoperable to build smarter cities and meet growing demand of various types of services. For the present study The data is taken from both primary and secondary sources. The first question is what is meant by a ‘smart city’. The answer is, there is no universally accepted definition of a smart city. It means different things to different people. The conceptualization of Smart City, therefore, varies from city to city and country to country, depending on the level of development, willingness to change and reform, resources and aspirations of the city residents. A smart city would have a different connotation in India than, say, Europe. Even in India, there is no one way of defining a smart city. This paper discuss the future of Jabalpur city M.P as a smart city. Jabalpur has been recently announced among one of the developing smart cities. This beautiful city is situated on the banks of river Narmada basin lies between east longitudes 72° 32' to 81°45'E and north latitudes 21°20' to 23°45'N. Jabalpur has seven Tehsils and seven Blocks & five hundred forty five gram panchayats . . Smart city uses information and communication technologies to improve contact between citizens and government and to enhance quality, performance and interaction of urban services to reduce cost and resource consumption with waste management. The city covers almost an area of 374 km sq. and has an elevation of 412 m. It is the 3rd largest urban agglomeration according census 2011.
