Mutual fund is the alternate source of investing in the capital market. It offers several advantages to the investors for investing in the capital market. Mutual fund offers its schemes in the category of equity, debt, hybrid, sectoral, thematic and so on. Most preferred category of investment is equity or equity oriented schemes which offer higher returns in comparison to the other categories. The aim of present study is to analyze the performance of the equity fund schemes for direct option and regular option for the time horizon of one year, three years and five years. For the purpose of analysis secondary data of the net asset value (NAV) of the schemes used and examined the return for three time horizon. Result shows that in the holding period of one equity schemes generated higher return. As time horizon increases from one year to three years and five years than there is reduction in the returns of the schemes. Therefore, on the bases of the result it can be concluded that investor can get higher return in shorter holding period than the higher holding period.
