Title

ANTIFUNGAL ACTIVITY OF SILVER SUBSTITUTED COPPER FERRITE NANOPAWDER SYNTHESIZED BY SOL-GEL METHOD

Abstract

Silver doped CuFe2O4 nanoparticles prepared by sol gel process based on the citric acid at room temperature. The structure, microstructure of the Ag doped CuFe2O4 nanoparticles was studied under the effect of calcinations temperature. The prepared nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) studies were carried out to investigate the formation of crystalline nanosized Ag doped CuFe2O4 spinel. The XRD result shows the crystalline inverse spinel structure with particle size 15.23 nm. The sharp peaks showed all-crystalline nature of single phase ferrite. The antimicrobial activity of the Ag doped CuFe2O4 nanoparticles tested against three fungus. The results show that Ag doped CuFe2O4 nanoparticles exhibit a marked degree of activity against fungus. It is clear from the tables that CuFe2O4 NPs silver doped with 1 wt%, 2 wt% and 3 wt% exhibit higher antifungal activities as compared to pure CuFe2O4. Furthermore, the antifungal result shows better inhibition for doped samples than pure samples. Ag doped Copper ferrite has high antimicrobial activity and it can also use for medicinal purpose.
