Title

Lymphoedema grade 3 in post breast quadrantectomy in Breast cancer stage 2B patient: - A case Report

Abstract

INTRODUCTION Breast cancer is the most prevalent disease in present scenario. This is very much present among US women’s and about one fourth of women population in America is suffering from breast cancer. According to the surveys it is most common among women as compared to males. Though before, the treatment for this was very expensive and person has to do for mastectomy. But as technology has advanced the treatment has also been updated .Nowdays,most of the women’s are not going for mastectomy. The part affected is being removed according to the stages of cancer .Stages of cancer is based upon the extent of the tumor. Case Description A 44 years old female with post breast quadrantectomy came to physiotherapy clinic with complaint of swelling in right arm .Due to which patient is facing problems in arm mobility, muscle strength and endurance. According to patient she took medication for decreasing edema but didn’t have permanent relief by medication. A through assessment was taken of the patient and after that Intervention was decided for the patient. Intervention 8 weeks of treatment plan was implemented to the patient after the assessment .In this study we chose 4 Intervention methods i.e. intermittent compression therapy, retrograde massage, contract bath and edema reduction exercise. In first 4 weeks intermittent compression therapy for 15 minutes along with retrograde massage was given to the patient. In next four week, we started with contract bath and edema reduction exercises for upper limb with 20 repetitions each for 5 sessions per week. Outcome Measures In this study we assessed the active, passive range of motion of cervical region, shoulder joint, elbow joint and wrist joint of both the sides. Along with this we assessed the manual muscle strength of shoulder, elbow and wrist movements. Anthropometric measures were also examined. Then patient were given Intervention treatment .Then again through assessment was done. In which we ruled out that there was significant improvement after all types of treatment given to the patient. But there was more significant outcome ruled out with the effect of edema reduction exercises.
