Banks are one of the oldest financial intermediaries in the financial system. They play an important role in the mobilization of deposits and disbursement of credit to various sector of the economy; it reflects the financial and economic health of the country, they are very dominant in India as it accounts for more than half of the assets of the financial sector, it has been a witness to several regulatory changes that have resulted in a heightened level of competition among the banks; and recognition of service quality as a competitive weapon is accepted.
