Title

A STUDY ON WILLINGNESS TO COMMUNICATE AND TOLERANCE FOR DISAGREEMENT IN EMPLOYEES WORKING AT BPOs

Abstract

Willingness to communicate is a concept that is often referred to casually. It is quite a common scenario where we observe people who aren’t willing to communicate or have a conversation. People also come across those who are argumentative and defensive or, in simple terms, have little to no tolerance for disagreement. Willingness to communicate and Tolerance for disagreement are two such concepts that are frequently inter-linked. It is quite obviously assumed that people who are willing to communicate tend to be open towards opinions, criticisms and are more tolerant towards a disagreement. This research aims at studying specifically those who work BPO jobs, IT related positions, Corporate sector related work and their Willingness to Communicate, Tolerance for disagreement. The study has two main objectives; One is that it aims at studying if variables like relationship with manager, type of shifts and relationships with people in their personal life impact their daily forms of communication and tolerance for disagreement; and, secondly, it aims to if there is any relationship between willingness to communicate and tolerance for disagreement. The sample was collected from 100 employees working in BPO sector in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. To measure willingness to communicate, the Willingness to Communicate (WTC) Scale given by McCroskey was used and for tolerance for disagreement, the Tolerance for Disagreement Scale by V. P. Richmond was used. However, the data interpretation is yet to be done. For the same, the researcher is going to use SPSS Version 21 to calculate statistics like measures of central tendency, dispersion, correlation and t-test.
