India emerged as an independent nation in 1947 after the British left the country by dividing it. The long duration of colonization had perpetuated uneven economic growth, poverty, illiteracy, gender disparity and lack of political mobilization. In subsequent period all these posed serious challenges to the internal security in the form of communal ism, fundamentalism, insurgency, and ethnic conflict etc. The issue of Kashmir which emerged at the time of integration of the country contributed a lot in aggravating all these concerns.
