Title

Production Of Silicon Carbide With Improved Toughness Using Agricultural Wastes

Abstract

Silicon Carbide is a rarely found mineral. Hence various techniques are used to produce it but produced SiC lacks fracture toughness. This Qualitative research study has been undertaken to produce toughened SiC from Agricultural Wastes (peanut shells, rice husks, sugarcane extracts and corn cob) using Pyrolysis process and adding whiskers ( ZrB2) to the produced SiC. Pyrolysis is the thermal Decomposition of biomass at elevated temperatures in an inert atmosphere. This process has been carried out in Industrial Microwave oven and Argon gas is used to provide inert atmosphere.
