THE POSITIVE IMPACT OF COMPUTER ACCELERATED LANGUAGE LEARNING AND SOCIAL MEDIA LANGUAGE LEARNING ON ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING AND LEARNING

Abstract

This research focuses on training the teachers of the English Language in using Technological tools or gadgets also guides the learners of English to utilize the technological tools to the fullest extent to enhance their communicative skills. Face books, blogs, twitters, pod casts are used by the researcher to evaluate the skills of the learners. Four groups of eighty students each group comprising of twenty students of Sathyabama University are taken as samples and a research was carried out. They were selected from the group of two hundred and eighty five students who enrolled to be an active sample for the research. Four levels of questionnaires administered to monitor the progress of the students. Two pre tests were conducted to ascertain their level. First test was conducted to identify their standard and to evaluate their previous knowledge in grammatical items. Traditional teaching was implied in their second test and their results were recorded. Assessments were conducted at regular intervals. Digital library at Sathyabama University which has nearly 200 computers with internet connection has been used for the research. The students were permitted to be in their digital libraries for a time period of four hours after their University hours. Students were excited and find it innovative to learn through a modern method. Students showed a remarkable progress after their learning through technology.
