Title

India Becoming a Hub of Entrepreneur: An Analysis of PMMY with Reference to Karnataka

Abstract

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sector provides employment opportunity to 120 million people against the 12.5 million by the big corporate houses. But these MSMEs are unable to get fully financial support from organized banking sector. So the Government of India Launched Pradhan Mantri Mudra Youjana (PMMY) scheme on 8th April 2015 to provide Mudra loans to MSMEs and non-farm small micro enterprises through public and private sector commercial banks, small financial banks, co-operative banks, MFIs and NBFCs. The main objective of the government is to provide fund to unfunded or bank to unbanked micro and small business units for employment generation and to promote entrepreneur in manufacturing, trade and service sector by lending up to 10 lakh in this areas. The Mudra loan is provided in three categories i.e. Shishu, Kishore and Tarun to individuals and firms without any collateral security or third party mediator. The success of any new scheme depends upon social inclusion, women participation, bank credit facilities and opportunity for the new aspirants of employment. The aim of the paper is to focus on PMMY Scheme, its need, progress and examine the progress of PMMY with reference to Karnataka.
