Title

An Evaluative Study of the English Text Book of Standard Nine

Abstract

The present study attempts to evaluate the English text book of standard XI. The sample of the study was the Teachers teaching English to Standard IX in Gujarati Medium Schools. The tool of the study was Opinionnaire. The text book was evaluated for external and internal characteristics, content presentation, picture/ images and activities The tool consisted of 46 statements in which 30mwere positive and 16 were negative. The data was analyzed through the chi square. The opinion of the teachers was significant in most of the cases. The result was --External characteristics - size and coverage are appropriate, cover page is not attractive, cover page is colored, Each and every image of cover page is not represented in content, cover page is flawless and binding is good, and Book is bit costly. Internal characteristics – Printing is readable, paper is white, appropriate space between words, Size of font is appropriate, Content of the book - Content presentation makes content attractive, Is age appropriate and in logical sequence, Has appropriate pictures, images, Is correlated with other subject and real life, Activities of the book- Activities are sufficient and relevant, Can be completed on own, Are interesting and enjoyable, Are age relevant and constructive.
