There twenty kinds of legal proceedings are alluded in Yajnavalkyasmriti.Among them the fifteenth and eighteen legal proceedings are Sahasam and Steyam respectively.The murder or robbing forcefully in the open daylight and before the owner or the king's guards or the public is called Sahasam.But in absence of the owner, king's guards or the public when other's goods are snatched is Steyam.In Yajnavalkyasmriti, in accordance with the crime's intensity, the doers of Sahasam and Steyam are punished by monetary punishment, lebelling on face, amputation or killing etc. In the article of 'Yajnavalkyasmritimate Sahasam Steyamcha' , the various laws about Sahasam and Steyam that are in Yajnavalkyasmriti are stated and in the present Indian social system how far the laws that stated in Yajnavalkyasmriti are followed or not or changed is elaborately discussed.
