Title

ZERO BUDGET IT INFRASTRUCTURE MAINTENANCE AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT ECOSYSTEM A CASE OF GUJARAT VIDYAPITH

Abstract

Gujarat Vidyapith was established in 1920 with the dual objective of liberating the nation as well as reconstruction of villages. Soon after its establishment and atmosphere of disappointment was felt as the courses offered by Vidyapith on the international standard where not compatible with the Gandhian ideology. The threat of closer of the institution was looming ahead. Discussions were going on in regard to the path that GV should take to sustainable its existence and Gandhian vision with 35 students after brainstorming it was decided to continue Vidyapith as social laboratory of Gandhian experiments with that came “UDYOG”. As a part of this process, the biggest change that took place was Udyog (Manual process) which was included in the syllabus. Hence, the time for classroom teaching and Udyog was kept equal that was 2 to 2.30 hours. (Ref.’Mara Samay ni Vidyapith’ chap-4, page-20) We do not have the information regarding how the Udyog got out of the syllabus of Vidyapith as lots of changes have been taken place in syllabus during 1926 to 2010, i.e., last 84 years. But in the year 2010, Udyog again was reintroduced in the Syllabus of Vidyapith. At present, time of four hours a week has been allotted to Udyog course with 2 credits. We believe that the purpose of re-starting Udyog is the original vision of Gandhi’s ‘Nai Talim’ that is theory of 3H, i.e., Head, Hands and Heart.
