Title

Tools used in Archaeological surveys

Abstract

This paper explores various geophysical survey methods employed in archaeological and forensic investigations to locate buried objects, remains, or evidence. The techniques discussed include Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Electric Resistivity Meter, Magnetometers (MAGs), Electromagnetic Induction Meters, Magnetic Locators, Metal Detectors, Side-scan Sonar, and Seismic Methods. Each method's working principles, advantages, and limitations are analyzed, highlighting their unique applications in detecting subsurface anomalies and foreign objects. The paper emphasizes the significance of selecting appropriate tools based on the geographical and topographical context of the investigation site. The increased use of these technologies in recent years underscores their importance in uncovering previously undetectable evidence and structures. This study concludes that while GPR remains one of the most versatile and commonly used methods, other tools like metal detectors and side-scan sonar provide essential capabilities for specific environments, such as underwater searches.
