Abstract The present investigation dealt with the antiproliferative and preliminary phytochemical analysis of n-hexane, dichloromethane and methanol extracts of Evolvulus alsinoides L. The 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazole-2yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay was used to assess the antiproliferative activity against chronic myelogenous leukaemia, hepatocellular carcinoma, breast cancer, cervical cancer and colorectal adenocarcinoma cell lines. And preliminary phytochemical screening has been performed using standard procedure. The antiproliferative assay results of the extracts revealed that the methanol and dichloromethane extracts will shown 21.36 % and 20.32 % respectively against HeLa cell line, and also methanol extract showed 21.06 % activity against breast cancer cell lines only. The preliminary phytochemical screening revealed presence of flavonoids, steroids, tannins and saponins.
