Abstract: The lab scale optimization of lovastatin production through submerged fermentation by Aspergillus terreus MTCC 1782 has been described. Fermentation experiments for the screening of fermentation media showed that A. terreus MTCC 1782 utilized fermentation medium (Medium-2) for production of lovastatin i.e., 258.26 mg/lit in the fermentation broth. The optimized parameters are incubation period 144 hrs., Age of the inoculum 144 hrs. (6 days), inoculum concentration 5 %v/v, incubation temperature 30°C, pH of the medium 6.0, carbon source (2 %v/v glucose), nitrogen source (0.6 %v/v ammonium sulfate) giving an overall yield of 460.29 mg/lit after optimization. The present study indicates that A. terreus MTCC 1782 as potential producer of lovastatin under submerged fermentation.
