Title

Structural and Antimicrobial Characterization of Schiff Bases Derived from Sulphonamide

Abstract

Some new Schiffs bases are derived from Sulphonamide. Their structure has been characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, IR and 1HNMR spectroscopy. The isolated products are coloured solids, soluble in DMSO, DMF and MeOH. The spectral data suggests that Schiff base acts as bidentate ligand. In search for better fungicides and bactericides, antimicrobial studies were conducted against the organisms Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Aspergillus flavous, Aspergillus niger, Penicillium citrinum and Fusarium oxysporum. The results suggests that the Schiff bases proved to be excellent bactericides and fungicides in the present investigations.
