A STUDY TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DEEP BREATHING EXERCISE ON REDUCTION OF MENOPAUSAL SYMPTOMS AMONG WOMEN OF AGE BETWEEN 40 - 50 YEARS IN SHANKAR NAGAR, JALNA, MAHARASHTRA.

Abstract

ABSTRACT A STUDY TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DEEP BREATHING EXERCISE ON REDUCTION OF MENOPAUSAL SYMPTOMS AMONG WOMEN OF AGE BETWEEN 40 - 50 YEARS IN SHANKAR NAGAR, JALNA, MAHARASHTRA. A quasi experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of deep breathing exercise to reduce the menopausal symptoms among menopausal women of age group 40 to 50 years of Shankar Nagar Jalna, Maharashtra, India. Data was collected from Shankar Nagar, Jalna. The study design used for the study was non randomized control group design. A total 40 women were selected by non- probability convenience sampling technique. A pre-test is done by using a menopausal rating scale. After pretest an intervention was given as deep breathing exercise for 25 min up to the 5 days, then finally the post -test assessment was done to assess effectiveness of deep breathing exercise on menopausal symptoms using menopausal rating scale. The statistical tests used for the analysis were: Students paired t test students unpaired t test, one way ANOVA, ‘Karl Pearson’ Correlation Coefficient, and Reliability Analysis. The study was conclude, that the deep breathing exercise is effective to reduce the level of menopausal symptoms, to improve health and to lead menopausal women to stay fit. OBJECTIVE: 1.4.1 To assess the pretest level of menopausal symptoms among experimental and control group. 1.4.2 To assess the post-test level of menopausal symptoms among experimental and control group. 1.4.3 To compare the effectiveness of deep breathing exercise on menopausal symptoms in pretest level and post-test level among women of age between 40 to 50 years. 1.4.4 To find out the pre-test association of menopausal symptoms score with selected demographic variables among of age between 40-50years. METHOD AND MATERIAL: Quasi experimental research design such as non- randomize control group design was used. Sample size was 40. The samples selected by non probability convenient sampling technique. The study was conducted in Shankar Nagar Dist. Jalna Maharashtra. The statistical tests used for the analysis were: Students paired t test, students unpaired t test, one way ANOVA, Karl Pearson’ Correlation Coefficient, Reliability Analysis, to assess the significant difference and association in pre and post test level of effectiveness of deep breathing exercise on menopausal symptoms among menopausal women of Shankar Nagar Jalna. MAJOR FINDINGS: 6.1.1. Most of women in pretest and post-test of experimental and control group were at the age of 41-45 years. [Table 4.1] 6.1.2. Most of women in experimental and control group were educated up to primary education. [Table 4.1] 6.1.3. Most of women in experimental and control group belonged to nuclear family. [Table 4.1] 6.1.4. Most of women in experimental group and control group were not having history of family planning. [Table 4.1] 6.1.5. Most of women in experimental group and control group were having two children. [Table 4.1] 6.1.6. Most of women in experimental group and control group were married. [Table 4.1] 6.1.7. Most of women in experimental group and control group followed vegetarian diet. [Table 4.1] 6.1.8. Most of women in experimental group and control group having moderate body built. [Table 4.1] 6.1.9. Most of the women in experimental group and control group were married at the age less than 15 yrs. [Table 4.1] 6.1.10. Most of women in experimental group and control group were not having miscarriage. [Table 4.1] • The tabulated value for n=20-1 i.e. 19 degrees of freedom was 2.09. The calculated ‘t’ value i.e. 10.39 are much higher than the tabulated value at 5% level of significance for overall MRS score of women age 40 to 50 years which is statistically acceptable level of significance. • The tabulated value for n=20+20-2 i.e. 38 degrees of freedom was 2.02. The calculated ‘t’ value i.e. 13.23 are much higher than the tabulated value at 5% level of significance for overall MRS score of women age 40-50 years which is statistically acceptable level of significance. • It is interpreted that age in years of women between 40-50 years is statistically not associated with their pre- test MRS score. [Table 4.4.1.] • It is interpreted that educational level of women of age between 40-50 years is statistically associated with their pre-test MRS score. [Table 4.4.2.] • It is interpreted that type of family of women of age between 40-50 years is statistically not associated with their pre-test MRS score. [Table 4.4.3.] • It is interpreted that history of family planning of women of age between 40-50 years is statistically not associated with their pretest MRS score. [Table 4.4.4] • It is interpreted that number of children of women of age between 40-50 years is statistically not associated with their pretest MRS score. [Table 4.4.5.] • It is interpreted that dietary pattern of women of age between 40-50 years is statistically not associated with their pretest MRS score. [Table 4.4.6.] • It is interpreted that body built of women of age between 40-50 years is statistically not associated with their pretest MRS score. [Table 4.4.7] • It is interpreted that age at marriage of women of age between 40-50 years is statistically not associated with their pretest MRS score. [Table 4.4.8.] • It is interpreted that number of miscarriage of women of age between 40-50 years is statistically not associated with their pre- test MRS score. [Table 4.4.9.] Conclusion: The study was taken to assess the effectiveness of demonstrations of deep breathing exercise on reduction of menopausal symptoms among the women of age between 40 to 50 years. This study finding could help to reduce the complications of menopause among women of age between 40 to 50 years.
