Hypertension means elevated blood pressure.It significantly increases the risks of heart, brain , kidney and other diseases. It is a major cause of premature death worldwide. Once person is diagnosed with Hypertension, life time medication is advised . However, inspite of regular medication, hypertensive complications arise among people. Ayurveda shows excellent response in hypertension . Punarnava plant acts on cardiac output and helps to lower blood pressure and also can maintain blood pressure for long period without side effects. A pilot study has been done in the deptt. Of kayachikitsa in 10 patients on OPD basis for a period of 30 days . The result of this study comes out positive , however further mass study is required to treat hypertension through Ayurveda.
