Title

PANDU (ANAEMIA) EPIDEMICITY- PATHOPHYSIOLOGY

Abstract

The disease which is predominant in a symptom of paleness all over the body is termed as Pandu Roga. Pandu Roga is explained in almost all the Ayurvedic Samhitas like Charak Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Harita Samhita, Ashtang Hridaya etc. It is also explained in Hindu treaties like Ramayan, Mahabharat etc. Hence it is evident that Pandu roga is present since vedic period. The vitiated Pachak Pitta due to Nidana Sevana creates abnormalities of Jatharagni. The Pitta which is Ushna, Tikshna is released during the Avastha Paka followed by Vipaka. When such Pitta mixes with the Sama Rasa Dhatu termed as Rasapradoshaja Aama and remain ready to enter into Hrudaya. Here Sadhaka Pitta, Vyanvayu are also involved in the formation of the disease. The vitiated Vyana circulates this Sama Rasa forcibly throughout the body or all over the body with the help of Dashavaha Dhamani. The Sthansamshrya Or lodging of the Doshas take place in between Twak and Mamsaa ;where in further vitiation of Sthanastha Kapha, Vata and Rakta producing various shades of colours ranging from Paleness, dark yellow growing towards greenish type according to the dominance and percentage of Pitta in the contact. It can be co-related with disease Anaemia due to similarities in the symptoms of the disease. This article is based on Nidana Panchaka of Pandu roga. The changing lifestyle of human being by means of Ahara and Vihara plays a major role in the manifestation of the disease. The detail knowledge of Nidana Panchaka and types of Pandu Roga will help in its diagnosis and management in this epidemic era of Anaemia.
