Title

Pollution level monitoring of Surface Water along the passes of Ahad River of Udaipur city

Abstract

Udaipur is renowned tourist place as well as cultural centre. It is also included in the list of Smart Cities of India. The region is blessed with numerous water bodies. The major water bodies in the region are Lake Pichola, Lake Fatehsagar, Lake Govardhan Sagar and Badi Reservoir and Lake Udai Sagar. The city is famous as “Lake City” around the globe. The expansion of the city according to the master plan 2031 will be approx. 350 sq. Km. As per census 2011, population of Udaipur City is 4, 51 735 which is 16% growth over census 2001. Considering the factor of population growth both natural and migration, it is anticipated that the population will be doubled in 2031 i. e. 10, 02, 000.There is a floating population of tourists and visitors, which is about 8-9 lakh per year. Industrial growth is one of the measure reasons of expansion of the city and pollution of surface water bodies due to improper discharge. There are around 5000 industrial units of large, medium and small scale in Udaipur City established in different industrial areas of the city. Improper discharge of domestic water as well as industrial waste water into the water bodies has deteriorated the water environment of the city. Aim of the paper is to attract attention of urban planning authorities of the city towards the water pollution in water bodies and recommendations for the mitigation measures and proper disposal of polluted water.
