Title

DESIGN AND PRESSURE ANALYSIS OF CENTRIFUGAL PUMP IMPELLER USING CFD

Abstract

A pump is a hydraulic machine which converts the mechanical energy supplied to it into hydraulic energy. This increases the stored energy of the liquid by increasing its pressure. Centrifugal pump are types of roto-dynamic pump in which fluid is moved by dynamic action of imparting momentum to the fluid. One of the methods is being proposed in which it was seen that if we increase the outer diameter of a centrifugal pump impeller then the minimum starting speed required to start the pump reduces. Moreover the pressure value is also different in both the cases. Vibrational analysis is also being performed on both the impellers. In order to prove these statement centrifugal pump impeller blades was designed on CAD (Computer Aided Design) software named CATIA and then pressure and CFD analysis was performed by the help of Ansys software on both types of blades. Moreover minimum starting speed of a centrifugal pump is also calculated in both the cases. As a result, it was seen that as the outer diameter of impeller decreases, minimum speed required to start a pump increases. Moreover, with increase in diameter and applying pressure on the impeller, the deformation decreases.
