Title

Impact Of Hydrographical Parameters On Brackish Water Penaeus monodon (Tiger Shrimp) Yield From Mogallu Village, Palakoderu Mandal, West Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, India.

Authors

Abstract

The demand for high protein value and low fat content is ever increasing and is need of the hour, human preference for aquatic food is also increasing. To meet the increasing demand, cultivation of such organisms has been increased now a days. Not only for the native lands but also for export purpose to other lands. The cultivation of fish, prawn and shrimp have contributed to Blue revolution by balancing the ecology and food chain so that sustainable development is achieved. Tiger shrimp culture has occupied major share in global shrimp production. Shrimp cultivation, in particular Penaeus monodon has gained attention commercially because it takes less time to attain marketable size, tolerance to wide range of salinity and high yield. The natural periphyton availability in the ponds triggered the healthy growth of the Tiger shrimp in the ambient waters. The hydrographic parameters influence the growth and survival of Tiger shrimp specially when cultivated in natural brackish water ponds. The parameters like pH, temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, alkalinity and mineral composition should be at optimum range to get a good crop which were studied in the present work at brackish water pond Mogallu village, Palakoderu mandal, West Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh in which monoculture of P.monodon was cultivated. The study was carried out for a period of four years from 2013 to 2016.
