Abstract: Connective tissue graft (CTG) is considered the gold standard for soft tissue augumentation procedures, but it requires a secondary donor area and its associated complications. The palatal masticatory mucosa is widely used as a connective tissue donor site in periodontal plastic surgery. Over the last few years, the SCTG has been used for various treatment options for gingival recession coverage, existing or impending ridge deficiencies, management of periimplant tissue anomalies, and treatment of furcation involvement and papillary loss. The objective of the present article is to review the number of modifications in the harvesting methods since the time it was introduced by Edel in 1974.
