Title

Combustion Synthesis of (Sr, Ca) B6O10: Cu Thermoluminescence Phosphor

Abstract

The solution combustion synthesis method is adopted for the synthesis of SrB6O10: Cu (SBOC) and CaB6O10: Cu (CBOC) and their thermoluminescence (TL) properties are compared. X-ray diffraction (XRD) is used for the determination of structure of both phosphors. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) shows the sizes of the particles of both the phosphors in micron range. Again the phosphors are exposed to 60Co gamma rays and thermoluminescence properties are compared. SrB6O10: Cu shows a single TL glow peak at 229 °C while CaB6O10: Cu shows two peaks at 150 °C and 225 °C respectively for the same heating rate of 5 °C/sec for both the phosphors. Comparing with the commercially available LiF:Mg,Cu,P (TLD-100H) phosphor, SrB6O10: Cu is found to be about 90 % while CaB6O10: Cu is 84 % sensitive to TLD-100H. The effect of dose variation on (Sr, Ca) B6O10: Cu was found to be linear up to 25 Gy dose with fading of about 33 % (SBOC) and 38 % (CBOC) in 25 and 60 days respectively.
