Dermatomyositis is a rare autoimmune mediated disease with an incidence rate of 9.63 per 1,000,000 people. There is a paucity of literature reporting physiotherapy management in these patients. A 38-year-old female patient started developing the symptoms of Dermatomyositis like proximal muscle weakness and rash gradually since April 2022. Patient was put on medical management for the same. The patient began physiotherapy sessions from September 2022. Gross proximal shoulder and pelvic muscle weakness, joint mobility restrictions, muscle cramps, waddling gait were noted in the physiotherapy evaluation. Functionally the patient was dependent for activities of bed mobility, transfers, lifting large objects, self-care activities like bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming. Physiotherapy treatment initially included training of all these functional task-based activities which led to independence in the functional activities. This case provides supportive evidence for importance of implementation of early task based functional training and physiotherapy management in cases of dermatomyositis.
