Title

A Descriptive Analysis Of Diseases & Health Of Hair Appendages As Per Ayurveda Classics

Abstract

In Ayurveda, hair is known as Kesha and is considered an essential element in enhancing the personality. Maintaining beautiful, long, shiny and healthy hair requires proper care and protection. Among the younger generation, common hair disorders include hair fall (khalitya), premature graying of hair (palitya), alopecia areata (indralupta) and dandruff (darunka). These conditions are believed to be affected by an imbalance of Vata, Pitta and Kapha doshas. Ayurvedic treatment aims to resolve diseases, prevent their recurrence and restore harmony in the body's doshas, dhatu (tissue), malas (waste products), mana (mind) and gunas (qualities). Therapeutic approaches may include purification therapy such as Panchakarma to remove toxins from the body. In addition, treatments such as siravedana (vein puncture) and nasya therapy (nasal drops) can be used to balance the doshas and relieve symptoms. Regular scalp massages with herbal oils (siroabhanga) and application of herbal pastes (lepa) (on the scalp can contribute to hair health. To prevent hair disorders, Ayurveda recommends the use of Rasayana (rejuvenating tonic) and balanced diet (pathya ahara) and Keshya (hair tonic) drugs.
