Title

A new Transformation of Growth Curves for developing a Lifetime Distribution and its Applications

Abstract

The literature on probability distributions is well developed, and several studies have been done to form a new probability distribution. The popular technique in this area is to use some suitable transformation of the cumulative distribution function (CDF) to get a new CDF. Sigmoidal growth curves show similarity in shape with the CDF. In this article, we have proposed a new transformation on the size of a growth curve that can be used to form a new distribution. We have proposed a new probability distribution using this transformation. Several mathematical properties of the proposed probability distribution are discussed, like the cumulative distribution function, probability density function, and moments. It is observed that different moments cannot be obtained in explicit form, and hence numerical approximation technique is used for their numerical solutions. The hazard rate can take different shapes like constant, increasing, decreasing, and bathtub. The distribution can be unimodal or bimodal, which is an important feature of this distribution. Further, the maximum likelihood estimator of their unknown parameter is derived. Two real data sets are considered to assess the performance of the proposed probability distribution.
