Title

Exploring the electrochemical characteristics of cobalt phosphate thin film electrodes for supercapacitor application

Abstract

In the present work, a Cobalt phosphate thin film was synthesized by chemical bath deposition method. The structural, optical and electrode preparation of the samples were investigated by XRD, Uv-visible spectroscopy and electrochemical analysis techniques. The prepared (CP) films are of monoclinic phase with highly preferred orientation along (240) plane. The electrode with 3.0 M cobalt concentration (CP3) offers more active sites and enhanced electrochemical performance as compared to the other two electrodes viz, CP1 and CP2 which contain lower concentration of cobalt. According to UV-visible spectroscopy analysis, the CP3 thin film is more conductive than the CP1 and CP2 thin films. As the band gap decreases, the specific capacitance of the CP electrodes increases. The CP3 electrode shows maximum specific capacitance of 548 Fg−1 at a current density of 1 Ag-1 and 90.06 % capacitive retention after 6000 cycles.
