Title

''A study to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge and practice regarding braden scale for assessing pressure ulcer among staff nurses of selected hospitals ofahmedabad, gujarat''

Abstract

Background: Pressure ulcers are the third most expensive disorder after cancer and cardiovascular disease. An estimated 1.7 million Patients develop Pressure ulcers annually. The prevalence rate of bed sores ranges from 3.5% to 69% in the inpatient departments. The Braden Scales is a valid risk assessment tool for pressure ulcer allow the nurses to red-flag areas may require more in-depth assessment and specific pressure ulcer preventative strategies. Objectives: 1. To evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge and practice regarding Braden scale for assessing pressure ulcer among staff nurses of selected hospitals. 2. To find out the association between Pre-test level of knowledge regarding Braden scale for assessing pressure ulcer and selected demographic variables of staff nurses of selected hospitals. Methodology: Quantitative research approach was used with Pre experimental (one group pre-test post-test) research design. The investigator used Non-probability convenience sampling technique for selecting 60 samples. Result: The demographic variable major findings are age, out 60 samples majority of the samples 41(68.33%) belong to the age group of 21 to 30 years, 40 % female staff were participant, 55% staff nurses are belongs to G.N.M.53.33% staff nurses have 0 3 years of working experience. The mean Pre-test score was 13.67 and the mean post-test score was 22.87 with the mean difference of 9.2. The table also represents that the Standard deviation of Pre-test score was 3.03 and Standard deviation of post-test score was 3.14. It reveals that mean post-test knowledge score was significantly higher than mean Pre-test knowledge scores. The calculated ‘z’ value s 16.34 and the tabulated ‘z’ value s 1.65 at 0.05 level of significance. The mean pre-test practice score was 6.78 and the mean of post-test practice score 11.87. The standard deviation of pre-test practice score was 1.63 and standard deviation of post-test practice score was 1.98. The calculated ‘z’ value was15.21and tabulated ‘z’ was 1.65 at 0.05 level of significance. Therefore, the null hypothesis H0 was rejected and research hypothesis H1 was accepted. Association of the pre-test knowledge score was found significant with demographic variable such as Age and Total Working Experience.
