Title

Performance of Single Point Cutting Tool in Turning Operation Using Zinc, Nickel and Zinc-Nickel Coatings

Abstract

Single point cutting tools, commonly used in turning, facing and shaping, facilitate precise material removal through a single contact point. However, their efficiency is often hindered by high wear rates and excessive heat generation. This study examines the performance of metal-coated single point cutting tools during the turning of aluminum workpieces. A high-speed steel tool was coated with Zinc, Nickel, and Zinc-Nickel. Experiments were conducted under varying cutting speeds, feed rates, and depths of cut. Key parameters such as temperature, surface roughness, and material removal rates were analyzed. Comparative evaluation between coated and uncoated tools provided valuable insights into the effectiveness of metal coatings in enhancing cutting tool performance.
