The present study was conducted at Bon Secours College Campus, Mannargudi, from January to mid-March 2025, with the aim of assessing butterfly diversity and abundance. A total of 365 individual butterflies representing 16 species across four families were documented. The species Acraea violae exhibited the highest relative abundance (73.97%), indicating its dominance in the study area, followed by Danaus chrysippus (6.58%) and Tirumala limniace (5.75%). Nymphalidae emerged as the most represented family in terms of both species (43.75%) and genera (46.15%). Based on local status assessments, five species were found to be common, seven were rare, two were very rare, and two were occasional. The results highlight the varying levels of species presence, with notable dominance by a few species and limited sightings for others. Comparative analysis with earlier regional studies reflects a consistent trend of Nymphalidae dominance, yet suggests potential habitat-specific variations in butterfly diversity and distribution patterns. This study contributes to baseline data for future biodiversity assessments and conservation efforts in the region.
