Poisoning remains a significant global health concern, warranting rapid therapeutic intervention. Ayurveda, through the branch of Agada Tantra, provides a detailed framework for the management of various poisons using Prativisha (antidotes). Modern medical toxicology employs chemical, mechanical, physiological, and chelating antidotes based on evidence-driven pharmacological principles. Although both systems aim to counteract toxic effects, their mechanisms, formulations, and approaches differ markedly. This review compares Ayurvedic Visha Chikitsa with contemporary antidote therapy, highlighting conceptual foundations, types of antidotes, mechanisms of action, and therapeutic applicability. The integrative understanding of ancient and modern strategies may offer insight into developing holistic, accessible, and effective antidote protocols. Strengthening scientific validation of Ayurvedic antidotes can contribute to future advancements in toxicology.
