Title

Structural Performance of Four Storey Diagrid Tall Building

Abstract

With the passage of time the availability of free land is decreasing due to increase in population and industrialization. This scarcity of free land has resulted in construction of tall buildings in which diagrid structural system is being widely used due to its structural efficiency and aesthetic potential. ‘Diagrid’ as the name depicts grid arrangement of diagonal members works on the phenomena of triangulation due to which the diagonal members carry both gravity as well as lateral load effectively. In this paper structural analysis of 48-storey steel diagrid building with 4-storey module of diagonal members is done to evaluate its performance. A regular plan of 36 mx36 m is considered and the method used for analysis is Response Spectrum Method. The modelling and analysis are done by using ETABS software in zone III for hard soil condition. All the members are designed as per IS456:2000[17] and load combinations of seismic forces are considered as per IS1893(Part I):2016[15]. The performance is evaluated from various parameters i.e. time period, base shear, storey displacement, storey drift and storey stiffness. It is founded that storey displacement and storey drift lies within the permissible limits. In diagrid structure majority of lateral load is carried by external diagonal members which further transfers load to the foundation
